Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 2026
Runners in Need is a personal project operated by Nick Coury. There is no formal business entity behind it. No money changes hands on this platform — it exists solely to connect running gear donors with community organizers. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and what rights you have.
1. What We Collect and Why
We collect only the information needed to operate the platform:
- Email address — Used for authentication (magic links and optional Google OAuth sign-in) and to send you transactional notifications such as pledge updates.
- Name — Displayed to other users so donors and organizers can identify each other.
- Organization name (optional) — Shown on your profile and listings if you represent a group or running club.
- Location — Used to match gear donations with nearby organizers. You choose how specific to make this.
- Gear descriptions — The details you provide when posting a need or pledging gear, stored so listings can be displayed and matched.
2. What We Don't Collect
- Data from minors. This platform is used by adult organizers and donors. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor's data has been submitted, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
- Financial data. No payments, credit card numbers, or banking information are collected. No money changes hands on this platform.
- Tracking cookies or advertising identifiers. We do not use third-party analytics trackers, ad networks, or retargeting pixels.
3. How We Use Your Data
Your information is used to:
- Authenticate your account and keep you signed in.
- Display your listings and profile to other users on the platform.
- Send transactional emails — pledge notifications, magic link sign-in codes, and direct messages between users.
- Match gear donations with organizer needs based on location.
- Respond to your support requests.
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing or any other purpose. Ever.
4. Third-Party Services
We rely on two third-party services to operate the platform:
- Cloudflare — Hosts the site and serves pages. Cloudflare processes incoming web requests, which means their servers see IP addresses and standard HTTP headers. Cloudflare provides built-in, privacy-friendly analytics (aggregated, no personal identifiers). We do not use any additional analytics tools. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.
- Resend — Sends transactional emails on our behalf (magic link codes, pledge notifications). Resend processes your email address solely to deliver these messages. We do not send marketing or promotional emails through Resend or any other service. See Resend's privacy policy.
If you sign in with Google OAuth, Google processes your authentication according to Google's privacy policy. We receive only your name and email address from Google; we do not access your contacts, calendar, or any other Google data.
5. Data Retention
Your data is kept for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account or request deletion, we will remove your personal data from our systems. Residual copies in backups may persist for a short time but are not used or accessed. To request account deletion, email us at the address below.
6. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Delete your account and all associated data.
To exercise any of these rights, send an email to [email protected]. We will respond within a reasonable timeframe.
7. Cookies
We use minimal cookies. The only cookies set are session cookies required to keep you signed in after authentication. These are essential for the site to function and cannot be disabled while using the platform. We do not use advertising cookies, tracking cookies, or any non-essential cookies. There is no cookie banner because there is nothing optional to consent to.
8. Email and CAN-SPAM Compliance
All emails we send are transactional — they relate directly to your account activity (sign-in links, pledge notifications, messages from other users). We do not send marketing or promotional emails. If you wish to stop receiving pledge notifications, you can adjust your notification preferences in your account settings or email us to opt out. You can also delete your account entirely to stop all emails.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top. If we make significant changes to how we handle your data, we will notify you by email. Continued use of the platform after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
10. Contact
If you have questions about this privacy policy or how your data is handled, contact Nick Coury at [email protected].
